• Most country songs are all about the story. For me, this song has good lyrics but it’s an indelible musical hook that lodges in your head and won’t let go. The credit goes to pedal steel great Lloyd Green for the big kahuna of all steel licks on Charley’s first hit record, "Just Between You and Me", from late 1966.   One of country music’s greatest songs by one of its greatest singers. Conway is second only to George Strait for the number of records that made it to number one on the charts (40). Many Conway Twitty fans will tell you the man had two distinct career phases: slicked-back pre-perm and post-perm. I really don’t think there was any difference between the two but some folks would disagree. Back in the early 80s, during my first year on country radio, a guy called me on the request line once and requested some Conway. I suggested his latest single and he harrumphed, "Conway ain’t been wuffa dam since he permed his hair."
